“I recently read and enjoyed “Reasons to Leave the Slaughter.” I identified strongly with “A Few Reasons We Left The Farm.” I have several of my own reasons for doing the same, none of which I realized at the time, but your poem caused me to revisit a few things I had forgotten. I have often written romanticizing that time, and am glad it gave me such an appreciation of the English Romantics and their American like-minded spirits, but I am also a realist and remember the dirt and the decay and the endless, repetitive work. Now I also find that those times can be mined deeply as inspiration for writing, as you have also discovered.”
